Our Piston Tanks have proven to be the most reliable and efficient way to let static diving model submarines submerge and REMERGE (being the most important and convincing argument).
Piston tanks are normally installed within the pressure proof/watertight compartment (WTC) of a model submarine.
Water is sucked into or pressed out of the cylinder.
Cylinder, tank and drive unit are resembled in ONE SINGLE UNIT - it's that SIMPLE!
All piston tanks come fully assembled and only need to wired-up to the switch unit required.
All Engel piston tanks regardless of type can be operated via a socalled switch unit with standard R/C components.
The piston tank, fully connected to its corresponding switch unit, will allow a model submarine to submerge and emerge just like its original counterpart - with a minimum of battery consumption at upmost safety for your model.
There are 3 types of Piston tanks:
1. Type EA with AutoStop
2. Type TA with AutoStop & AutoTrim
3. Type XP with AutoStop & proportional Trim.
All Piston Tanks feature the AutoStop device, meaning that the drive unit will stop as soon as the tank (cylinder) is fully emptied or filled.
These piston tanks are equipped with 2 micro switches as well as the necessary mechanism.
Piston Tanks type TA feature the AutoStop as well as the AutoTrim device. The AutoTrim device offers a third position of the piston within the cylinder at which the model can be trimmed to "perfect boyuancy".
These piston tanks are equipped with 3 micro switches and as well as the necessary mechanism.
Piston Tanks Type XP feature the AutoStop as well as proportional fine trim meaning that the last 30 mm of piston travel can be proportionally controlled by the transmitter.
Piston tanks can either be controlled as a single unit or as a pair by a socalled switch unit.
Piston tanks type EA can be controlled with Ballast Tank Switch BTS (item-no. 1584-BTS).
Piston tanks type TA can either be controlled by Switch Unit TAE, TAES (with Static Depth Controller) or Ballast Tank Switch BTS.
Piston Tanks type XP can either be controller by proportional Control Unit Tmax or proportional Ballast Tank Switch SBTS.
A switch unit is required for any of the piston tanks offered. Operation of piston tanks without fully connected switch unit will result in damaging of the corresponding piston tank.
Customized Piston Tanks
If you are looking for a Piston Tank with a volume not listed here, we can manufacture any volume starting from 250 to 1000 ml at a surcharge of EUR 23.80 (20.00 net) added to the smallest tank of that series (either EA, TA or XP in 6 or 12V).
Click on one of the item pictures below marked as "custom". There will then be a button marked as "how to calculate dimension". This will show how dimensions (cylinder and total length) of a custom made Piston Tank can be calculated easily.
Please note that outside diameter of 75 mm never changes; only the length of the cylinder is variable.
